Monday Program - Week Ten: U.S.-China Intellectual Property Rights Protection Challenges

On April 28, Mr. Yang Guohua, Councelor for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United States, spoke to the students and outlined major issues and challenges in the IPR field and their effect on U.S.-China relations.

Monday Program - Week Ten: U.S.-China Investor's Perspective by Dr. Wong, CEO, OPUS8

On April 28, Dr. Tien Wong, CEO of OPUS8, met with the group to advice on investment opportunities in China and the United States.

Located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, OPUS8 is a private investment firm that makes investments in middle-market buyouts and in opportunistic venture capital situations. Seeking middle-market acquisitions OPUS8 is particularly  interested in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Call Centers, IT Outsourcing, Database Management and E-Commerce.

Monday Program - Week Nine: The Boeing Office Tour and Presentation by Mr. Shep Hill, Boeing International, President

On April 24, the group of the U.S.-China Bilateral Trade Internship Program students toured the Boeing International HQ in Arlington, VA. 

Mr. Shep Hill, Boeing International, President, and Ms. Jean Pritchard, Vice President, BCA and Commercial Activities, offered a comprehensive presentation on Boeing's international business strategy and its China activities.  Hill and Pritchard also took part in Q&A session.


 

Monday Program - Week Nine: Business Opportunities for U.S. Companies in Asia and China's Environmental Challenge

On April 21, Mr. William Zarit, Regional Director for Asia Pacific at the US Department of Commerce's U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service (USFCS) delivered a presentation on business opportunities for U.S. companies in Asia. Mr.

Monday Program - Week Eight: Voice of America and Capitol Hill Visit

On April 14, TWC interns visited the Voice of America (VOA) office and toured its China Department.  The students met with VOA staff and discussed U.S.-China differences in media boadcast areas.

On April 16, Congressmen Mark Kirk and Rick Larsen, Co-Chairs of teh U.S.-China Working Group, met with the students to share their views on the U.S.-China bilateral trade, security, foreign policy and IPR issues.

On April 17, TWC arranged a tour of the Capitol building for the U.S.-China Bilateral Trade Internship Program interns.

Monday Program - Week Seven: U.S.-China Competitive Engagement Presentation by Dr. Charles Freeman III, Freeman Chair, CSIS

On April 7, TWC interns visited CSIS and met with Dr. Charles Freeman III, Freeman Chair at CSIS.  Dr. Freeman briefed the interns on the current state of U.S.-China relations, and outlined major areas of U.S.-China competitive engagement in the coming decades.

Monday Program - Week Six: Doing Business in China and Career Fair

On March 31, Mr. Samuel Mok, Managing Member, Condor International Advisors, LLC, engaged TWC interns in an interactive discussion on career goals and professional growth. 

Monday Program -- Week Five: U.S. Commercial Service and China Trade Information Center Welcomes TWC Students

On March 24, TWC students visited the U.S. Commercial Service's China Trade Information Center. Ms. Roza Pace, Senior International Trade Specialist outlined the USCS mission and goals, and shared her views on U.S.-China business developments. Ms. Pace explained how the U.S. Commercial Service helps U.S. exporters to find partners in China. She also addressed IPR protection and advocacy issues and answered numerous questions related to U.S.-China trade.

Monday Program - Week Four: Learning Business Etiquette and Technology Cooperation

On March 17, Ms. Stephanie Singleton, Singleton Associates, presented a lecture on business etiquette:  "Business Etiquette - Things You Might Want to Know."  Students explored the art of partaking in a business lunch and engaged in an interactive dialogue. 

Also on that day, TWC students visited the U.S.-Asia Institute and met with Dr. Benjamin Wu, President of the U.S.-Asia Institute. Dr.  Wu shared his views on U.S. foreign policy, U.S.-Asia relations, Taiwan and U.S.-China technology transfer issues.

Monday Program - Week Three: Drew Thompson, The Nixon Center, Delivers "US-China Relations in the Year of the Rat" Presentation

March 10, TWC Interns visited The Nixon Center.  Mr. Drew Thompson, Asia Center Director at The Nixon Center, met with the interns and delivered presentation "U.S.-China Relations in the Year of the Rat."  Mr. Thompson shared his views on US presidential elections and new U.S.-China policy, bilateral trade, China outsourcing issues, Taiwan and the Beijing Olympics.  Subsequent questions & answers session lasted for more than an hour.
